A little About Me:
I’m a proud New Englander who recently made the move to Tampa, and I’m excited to explore a new area and see what the Sunshine State has to offer. I take self-care seriously and believe in making time for fun, movement, and a good reset. Lately, I’ve found a love for Pilates, which has become one of my favorite ways to get moving and recharge.
As a true millennial with a serious love for nostalgia, I also enjoy nurturing my younger self with trips to the Disney parks. And you may occasionally meet my biggest supporters during a session—my cats, Meeko and Roadie! They’re the curious cats behind the name of my practice and are always happy to make an appearance and say hello.
Meet the Owner of
The Curious Cat Therapy
Hello! My name is Adriana Lara and I am the owner of The Curious Cat Therapy, offering counseling services for individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor based in Tampa and provide virtual therapy in Florida, New York, and Massachusetts.
I work with folks who are feeling stuck and can’t seem to get out of their own way. I meet people where they are, helping to sit with the feelings to be able to let go of the hurt, pain, or frustration. My approach is warm, I will challenge you, while using a dash of silliness and humor.
At The Curious Cat Therapy we lean into curiosity to explore what has led you here. As a therapist, I try not to take life too seriously. I believe humor can help ease tension, create connection, and make it a little easier to talk about the hard stuff. I’ll help you recognize your strengths, challenge unhelpful patterns, and build tools you can actually use in everyday life.
Everyone’s story is different, and therapy should be tailored to what you need. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, navigating a major life transition, healing from past experiences, or struggling with relationships, we'll work together to understand what’s beneath the surface and create meaningful change. Explore the areas where I can support you and find the path that feels most aligned with your journey.

Teen Therapy & Parent Support
Being a teenager can be complicated. Between school, friendships, family expectations, social media, identity, and figuring out who you are, it can feel like a lot to carry. Sometimes anxiety, stress, low confidence, or big emotions can make everyday life feel overwhelming.
Therapy can provide teens with a space that is truly their own—a place where they can show up as themselves, feel understood, and talk through the things that may be difficult to share with others.
I believe therapy with teens starts with connection. Before meaningful change can happen, teens need to feel comfortable, respected, and accepted. My goal is to create a space where they don't feel judged or like they are being "fixed." Instead, we work together to understand what they are experiencing, build confidence, and develop tools that actually feel useful in their everyday lives.
I bring a balance of warmth, humor, and honesty into my work with teens. I know therapy can feel intimidating, so I meet teens where they are—whether that means using humor, being a little cheesy, talking about the things they care about, or simply sitting with the hard moments. I want therapy to feel like a place where they can be themselves while also being supported in growth.

Parenting is one of the hardest jobs—and there is no perfect way to do it. Many parents come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, unsure if they are handling things the "right" way, or struggling to understand what their child needs.
I provide support for parents who want to strengthen their relationship with their child, improve communication, and feel more confident in their parenting approach.
Supporting Parents Along the Way
My goal is not to tell you how to parent. Instead, I want to help you better understand your child, reconnect when things feel difficult, and find approaches that work for your family.
Together, we can explore:
Understanding your teen's emotions and behaviors
Responding instead of reacting
Setting healthy boundaries and expectations
Improving communication
Supporting your child's mental health while also caring for your own
Letting go of guilt and giving yourself more grace
Therapy That Is Warm, Honest, and Human
Starting therapy can feel vulnerable. You may be trying to understand patterns you’ve been stuck in for years, make sense of experiences that shaped you, or simply figure out why you’re feeling overwhelmed. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, supported, and genuinely understood—without judgment.
At The Curious Cat Therapy, curiosity is at the heart of my approach. Instead of only focusing on what is happening, we’ll explore why it is happening. Together, we’ll look at the thoughts, experiences, and patterns influencing how you see yourself, navigate relationships, and respond to life’s challenges. Understanding yourself is often the first step toward creating meaningful change.
Compassion With Accountability
Therapy with me is a balance of compassion and honest conversation. There’s always room to vent, but we’ll also work toward practical change. I’ll help you recognize your strengths, challenge unhelpful patterns, and build tools you can actually use in everyday life.
I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), along with trauma-informed approaches, mindfulness, emotional regulation, self-compassion, boundary-setting, and communication skills. Your therapy will be tailored to you—not a one-size-fits-all approach.
You don’t have to have everything figured out before starting therapy. You just have to be willing to get curious about your story.
